Information & Updates on the MTF families

Amelia Heston
October 10, 2011

MTF is helping three-year-old Amelia Heston, who was born with multiple craniofacial abnormalities and facio-aricula vertebral malformation spectrum, which causes deafness. The family’s physicians have determined that she is a perfect candidate for an auditory brain stem implant (ABI) -- the only device clinically proven to restore partial hearing ability to people without auditory nerves. The leading expert in this field is Dr. Coletti, of Italy, who has achieved great success in the operation. The implant must be done at an early age, so Amelia’s family needs support to travel and for the costly operation, as soon as possible.

The Mitchell Thorp Foundation has been helping this family who has two children with to different issues.  Tanner 6 has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Pria has Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis and has had 30 plus surgeries on her larynx.  The father is the full time care giver while mom works.  She recently has lost her job leaving them both without income.

The Foundation has assisted in getting Tanner to his specialist in Cincinnati, who specializes in Duchenne’s.  We have assisted them in living expenses and alternative treatments for Pria.  The Foundation organized the family to go to Petco Park and be on the Field for pictures.
