While we cannot cure a child, we can help the families endure, and soften their heartbreaking journey.
Since our founding in 2009, we have discovered that more than a quarter of a million children in the U.S. are diagnosed with life threatening illnesses each year. Contributions to MTF support these children and their families in their time of physical, financial and spiritual crises.
OUR CHALLANGE
The sudden onset of a child’s life threatening illness is devastating to the family; 24/7 care and hardship become a way of life:
• Loss of income: Most often, one of the parents has to quit their job to stay by the child’s bed-side and care for them.
• Financial Security: Single parents cannot afford to give up their source of income and jeopardize their health insurance.
• Emotional Stress: 78% of families whose child is diagnosed with a critical illness experience divorce or separation; and the stress will test these families beyond their endurance, often bankrupting them financially, emotionally and physically.
OUR SOLUTIONS
When no other resources are available, MTF provides urgently needed support to families. The requests for help range from:
• Essentials such as food, shelter, utilities, and transportation
• Medical procedures, medications and alternative treatments that are not covered by insurance
• Medical equipment for the home
• Bereavement support, funeral and burial expenses
• Medical travel expenses
• Childcare for sibling(s) while parents are with a hospitalized child
• Provide needed attention to neglected sibling(s) to help preserve the family unit
