God Bless your family, and Mitchell, who is in a better
place now. I remember him from 5th grade, he was such a
great kid, he was too good for this world. Too good to
have to suffer. God Bless, you'll be in my prayers.

Dear Brad, Beth and Matthew, Mitchell's memorial
service was so beautiful. His spirit was felt
throughout the whole service. You are all an amazing
family. God has poured out his love on each one of you
as you have walked through this journey. I know God
will continue to send his love, strength and care as
you continue on. Please know you are in my thoughts and
prayers. Thank you Mitchell, for showing me a side of
God that I would have not experienced if I had not
known you and your family. Blessings and love to you

Dear Thorp Family, I am a friend of Sue Bobeck's, &
her sister Dede is my best friend. They have long
talked about a remarkable young man called Mitchell,
about his courage and his enduring warmth. They also
spoke of the extraordinary love and unrelenting faith
and support that your family accorded Mitchell. May you
find peace in each other and may all the joyful
memories of Mitchell bring comfort when you are missing
him most. My deepest condolences, Monica

Dear Thorp Family, Please know that the Board of
Trustees of the Carlsbad Unified School District and I
have you in our thoughts at this very difficult time.
Mitchell was a student who will be missed by many and

Dear Brad, Beth and Matthew, Words are not easy to
find to express the love I feel for all of you during
this time of great sadness and at the same time
sharing the beautiful spirit of freedom that we can
only accept through our hearts. As I sat with all of
you in the memorial service I knew we were experiencing
something so profound that will live on forever in all
of our hearts. I felt close to Mitchell through you,
Brad, and my own son who is Mitchell's age and shared
his love of baseball. We can never know how there is
such great love and strength in our human experience
except by witnessing yours. The days after the service
I thought about Mitchell quite intensely and sent many
wishes for happiness his way. I was rewarded with a
response as I walked into a store one day with the song
"Arms of an Angel" playing...I smiled and knew it was
from him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of
you for continued love and peace in your hearts. Donna

Dear the Thorp Family, I'm extremely sorry. I just
heard about what happened an hour ago. I wish I knew
earlier. I had hoped he would get better, and that he
could return to us at school. God Bless, and I hope for
the best. ~Jon

Beth, Brad, and Matt - The Memorial Service was
proof that Mitchell's spirit is home. His enthusiasm
and courage inspires the many thousands of people whose
life he touches including ours. Time stood still
for a few hours yesterday afternoon and we are all
better for the having experienced the absolutely
incredible outpouring of love that filled the NCCC
chapel -- the love you all have for Mitch, the love of
your family for each of you, and the love of a
community of young men who were, I can assure you, very
profoundly touched by Mitchell's strength and the
proceedings that honored his life. Words tend to
disappoint emotions. But please accept our sincere
hopes and prayers that you each receive a bounty of
joyful experience for the character demonstrated in
your tireless expression of what is best about the
human experience. Beth, you are a hero to us all.
Brad, you are role model for me. Matty, you are the
best bother a guy could ask for. Peace

Dear Beth, Brad and Matthew, Our family moved from
Carlsbad to Singapore in June 2005. At that time,
Billy, a former AOMS schoolmate and baseball friend of
Mitch's was very upset when he heard about Mitch's
illness and yet unknown cause for it. He has talked
about Mitch many times over the past few years and has
kept him in his prayers, as have our family. Billy
heard the news today that Mitch has gone home to the
Lord. We know he fought a tough battle and now is at
peace. Our prayers are with you all at this time as
you hold close the memories of your beautiful son. May
God grant you much strength and surround you with His
love and peace at this time. Love, Andrea, Bill, Billy
and Rachel Fulton

heart breaking journey. We also pray for His continued
comfort in the days and years ahead. Our deepest
sympathy to you, Matthew, and your families. Please
know that you are not alone and that you are always in
our thoughts and prayers. Love Mike and Sandy Brennan

I was one of Mitchell's 7th grade teachers, and the
memory of Mitchell's smiling face remains with me. He
was an outstanding student and a wonderful boy. I am
so sad to hear of his passing, and my thoughts and
prayers go out to his family. Mitchell, I feel blessed
to have been a little part of your life. I will always
remember you, and I will miss you. Matthew, I was
lucky to be your teacher too. I loved talking with
you, and your smile also warmed my heart. As you and
your family heal, I wish you a good life ahead. I know
Mitchell would want you to be happy. I am thinking of
you... M. O'Neill

Dear Beth Ann, Brad and Matthew, I've been in your
company a few times at CC & Bob's house. My heart aches
for you at this sorrowfultime. What a beautiful
young man the Lord loaned to you. What proud parents
you must be of your sons. There are no words for me to
share that could possibly ease the pain in your hearts.
Know that you have a family of friends from Saint
Francis of Assisi in Henderson Nevada who are praying
for all of you and for Mitchell. My deepest sympathy
and love. May the Lord cradle Mitchell in His loving
arms. My prayer is that Mitchell is playing baseball
with his grandfather in Heaven!

Brad, Beth and Matt, I was incredibly saddened to
hear of your loss, but at the same time heartened to
realize that Mitchell can now move on to the next phase
of his journey unburdened by the terrible pains that
have shackled him since our first
meeting. Eventually, I hope that these thoughts can
bring you the same peace that Mitchell now enjoys. In
the meantime, be assured that this community will be
with you in your time of healing, and will not allow
the memories of Mitchell's courage to be
erased. With much love, Tom

Dear Lord, Please be with the Thorp family in this
time of need. Please hold them close so they feel the
warmth of your breath the security of your arms and the
love within the beat of your heart. Please provide
Mitchell safe passage as he journeys to you and provide
his family the comfort of knowing that one day they
will join him in your arms.

Beth and Brad, Traci and I are deeply saddened by
your loss. We cannot begin to comprehend what you have
been through nor what Mitchell endured. Please simply
know that God's plans are higher and His plans are
often unknown. We pray that you would be comforted in
this time. We pray that you would be able to receive
peace from Him. May God bless you and keep you and
draw you unto Him. Daron and Traci

Mission Statement

The Mitchell Thorp Foundation(MTF) is a nonprofit organization, commemorating Mitchell’s shortened life of 18 years and his five-year heroic struggle against an undiagnosed illness.

Mitchell’s strength and courage, along with the community’s support, collectively inspired the family to establish the MTF that provides financial benefits and emotional support to families burdened with childhood disease or disorders.

In addition, the MTF provides scholarships and awards to promising young athletes, like Mitchell, acknowledging their accomplishments in youth baseball as a player and role model.
